On September 24th from 4:30 -6:30pm in the Lincoln Residence Hall Greatroom the Capital Scholars Honors(CAP) Peer Mentors hosted an Academic Majors Fair. Over 20 Major programs and their affiliated academic clubs came out to talk with the freshman CAP students about their programs. Each of the programs came with pamphlets and passion to share with the students. This was a great opportunity for the students to learn more about the purpose and application of each major. As part of the event students were given “bingo” sheets to help encourage them to learn about all the majors , not just the ones they think they would like to know about. After the sheet was filled out the students received a Jimmy John’s catered lunch. The College of Education and Human Services was represented by Martin Martsch , Associate Professor of the Social Work program.Pictures of event can be viewed on our facebook page here.

We received word today that as of September 1st the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Concentration of our Human Services Department has been reaccredited by the Illinois Certification board as a Advanced Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor Training Program. This is a difficult process that calls for the program to be reevaluated every three years. Our Faculty and Staff continue to work hard to ensure the programs offered are of the best quality to equip UIS students for engaging the world around them. Just an example of leadership lived in the everyday that produces great results. Thank you and congratulations to Dr. Carolyn Peck and her faculty for all of their hard work resulting in this achievement.
