Recently, the College of Education and Human Services from the University of Illinois at Springfield hosted a group of Chinese scholars who came to visit looking to do some research in the field of education and observe how classes are taught in a different country. Most of these traveling Chinese scholars teach English in their home country of China, they were introduced to different methods of teaching a class that will prepare them to become well-rounded instructors.
The College of Education and Human Services provided the traveling scholars with different workshops and also had them observe a few classes by the Teacher Education Program (TEP). Through this program scholars had the opportunity to sit in on classes taught by student teachers and observe the different teaching styles and methods used during the lesson.
Ping Zhang (shown on the right), a traveling scholar, was able to visit an American school for her first time. Ping Zhang traveled to Feitshans Elementary in district 186 to observe a classroom for the day. She enjoyed her experience at the elementary school and looks forward to applying what she learned here to schools in China. Overall, it was a pleasure to host a group of intelligent and talented individuals who are on their way to becoming teachers of the next generation.
