Apply for a First Year Composition Award! Deadline of April 5!

Calling all UIS Students!

If you participated in a UIS composition course in the 2011-2012 or 2012-2013 school year, then we want you to submit your writing for a First Year Composition Award.

These awards have cash prizes, and students can ask their professors to nominate them for the award.

The three awards category are: Best Essay, Best Portfolio, and Most Improved Writer.

Students should ask their professors to write a brief statement about how their writing meets the idea of the award for which they are applying. This statement should be submitted to the Award Committee with all other relevant documents.

For the Most Improved award, students should also explain why their writing improved more than others over the course of the semester. Students should submit first and final drafts as evidence of their improvement.

The preferred form of delivery is to submit three paper copies of the relevant writing for evaluation by the committee members. However, for the Best Portfolio award, students may submit the link to their final website. Best Portfolio competitors do need to submit a written statement of nomination for the award from their composition instructors. These can be printed and submitted or can be emailed with the portfolio link.

Paper submissions should be turned in to Julie Atwell’s office, UHB 3050. Electronic submissions should be submitted to Julie Perino at jperi01s@uis.edu

Good luck!
