NGDC Project Status Update

Here is the latest information regarding the Next Generation DataCenter project:

  • Dell has delivered all equipment with the exception of one of the Equallogic SAN units. That unit is scheduled to be delivered by Monday, July 18th.
  • Jamie and his team are engaging Facilities to ensure that the correct power connectors are in place, that the correct power distribution units are on site, and that the cabinets have been full prepared to receive the new equipment.
  • Dell technicians will be on site on or around Wednesday, July 20th, to perform the installation, power on, configuration and burn in of the blade system and SAN units. This work is expected to take 2-3 days.

  • The Dell VSphere specialist will be onsite beginning Monday, July 25th, and will be spending three weeks here. The first week will be focused on validating the design of the VSphere environment to meet our NGDC Phase 1 specifications. The next week will be focused on installation and testing of the environment. The third week will be focused on performing some physical-to-virtual (P2V) migrations and knowledge sharing. At the end of this time, the system should be ready for production use.
  • After the Dell engagements have been completed, the plan for migrating existing virtual and physical servers will be implemented over the coming weeks and months. Additionally, Tulio will be leading the development and implementation of a virtual desktop environment for piloting in a computer lab.
