UISRanger1 Decomissioning

We will be decommissioning sever UISRanger1 effective tomorrow. It has not been running the VRanger backups for several years and hasn’t performed any VCB backups for many months.

There is some data on it that is not be related to backups, but appears to be just general IT archival storage that is many years old. If you have any data on it you still need, please copy it to another location as soon as possible.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Camtasia Relay Upgrade

August   16:  Camtasia Relay Upgrade
Camtasia Relay will be unavailable on Thursday, August 16 from 7am – 10am.

This scheduled upgrade does NOT include major differences in the way Relay looks and functions. However, it does provide us with improved performance, improved functionality for Mac users, and the ability to seamlessly capture system audio automatically.

Domain Controller Decomissioning

Update: 08-Aug 10, 2012 @ 17:45
The replacement of the failing Windows 2003 server with a new Windows 2008 completed successfully and most dependent systems are working normally. However, we discovered some compatibility issues with AITS systems that perform Kerberos authentication against our Windows domain controllers. Brian and Tulio are working with AITS to find a permanent resolution.

Update:

We will be re-attempting the replacement of uisdc1 today at approximately 11:15 am. There may be a brief period of time (5-15 minutes) where people logging into Contribute and the portal may experience intermittent problems. Those who are already logged in will not be affected.

As announced last week, uisdc1 and uiscore1, the last Windows 2003 Domain Controllers, are going to be decommissioned this week.

Today during the lunch hour we plan to shut these servers down in preparation for this process. Please report any issues to the Systems Support team as soon as possible.

Wireless is Intermittent – Resolved

Update:

The configurations on the Cisco controllers somehow became invalid and the controllers were disabled. Scott, Jamie and Kevin worked together to get the correct configurations restored. Campus wireless is now working normally again. More investigative work will be done to determine the root cause of the problem.

A special thanks to Kevin for pitching in to help out on his day off.

Wireless access across campus is intermittent. We are investigating.

Mail Slowness

We are going to perform rolling reboots of the three mailbox servers in an effort to alleviate the slowness reported (and experienced) today in the mail system.
