Backhoe work

The UIS Electricians and an external contractor are working to remedy standing water in the electrical manhole on the north west corner of Brookens.
They are digging near several fiber/copper runs.
They are trying to be careful, I just wanted the rest of IT to know incase.

Eduroam wireless network changes

As part of an effort to clean up and secure our wireless networks we are changing the IP address range of Eduroam. This will not have an impact on users as there is usually no one connected to eduroam. We plan to make similar changes to the Guest and Preauth networks in the future.

Welcome Sadie

Sadie Furman will join the ITS Management team on Monday, February 11 as Staff Clerk. She will be responsible for providing support for the business operations of the department with a focus on inventory and Desktop Refresh Program administration.

Sadie earned a degree in International Studies from Illinois College and has worked at the Illinois Department of Public Health for the past 4 ½ years as an Office Associate. Experience with keeping accurate records in several former positions makes her an excellent choice for this new position in ITS.

Her desk will be located in BRK 180, in the area behind Katy’s desk. Please stop by to welcome Sadie to ITS and the UIS community.

Modification of firewall

A new access-list has been added in the firewall that applies to outgoing connections.  This is ONLY preventing connections to 122.155.13.130 at this time.  Previously, we did not restrict any outgoing connections, but due to emails received from Urbana indicating the urgency to protect the users, we followed suit to actions that they also applied.

Helpdesk Manager Update

Helpdesk Manager Todd Rotroff is currently on FMLA leave. The responsibilities of the Helpdesk Manager have been assigned to Bill Cox, ITTA, until a permanent Helpdesk Manager can be hired.

Bill has several years of supervisory experience and has a working knowledge of the Desktop Refresh Program. Additionally, Bill has expertise in both computer set up and imaging, as well as demonstrated customer service skills.

We appreciate Bill’s willingness to assume additional responsibilities during this time of transition for the Helpdesk.

Subject: Exchange Global Address List Change
We are sending this note to all UA staff for informational purposes.
This Thursday evening AITS will put UIC and UIS faculty and staff in the Exchange Global Address List. It may take up for 48 hours to see the new address book entries. This change will enable users to do a quick lookup of people from UIC and UIS in Webmail and Outlook. These individuals will also be searchable in the Lync Address Book. The main difference in their display will be that these people will have a UIC or UIS suffix appended to their name. As a UA employee, you should not show up twice.

If you have any questions, please contact the AITS Service Desk at: 217-333-3102 (from Urbana-Champaign or Springfield) or 312-996-4806 (from Chicago). You can also report issues via email to the AITS Service Desk at: servicedeskaits@uillinois.edu.
Thanks,
Mark E. Pollard, C.P.A., C.F.A.
