Windows Updates on Exchange 2010 mailbox servers will begin very shortly. Rolling reboots will occur throughout the day as we patch and restart each server. Users using Outlook in cached mode, or webmail.uis.edu users should be unaffected by the reboots. Outlook users in live mode may see a temporary disconnection (a few seconds) from their mailbox when the server fails over.

Systems Support will be performing a number of maintenance tasks over Spring Break. Here is the agenda as it currently stands (will update the post for any changes)-
Monday:
Promote UISDC03 (10.101.10.33) to a domain controller/DNS server.
Tuesday:
Configure new Exchange Unified Messaging server UISUMS01 to replace the current aging server UISUMS1.
Wednesday:
Updates on the VMWare ESX hosts, some networking changes to the vMotion network, install OpenManage on ESX hosts.
Exchange mailbox servers will have Windows Updates applied. Rolling reboots will occur throughout the day as we move from server to server.

We will be performing maintenance on one of the domain controllers: UISDC03 later this week.
It will be taken down and will be inaccessible for approximately a day. This outage should have no affect to any users or applications (unless they are specifically targeting the UISDC03 domain controller).

All maintenance on Exchange has been completed! Sorry, I forgot to post this earlier!
Just a reminder, we plan to apply Exchange 2010 SP3 Update Rollup 4 first thing tomorrow (12/18/13) morning. This will fix the issue with IE11 not working well with webmail.uis.edu, among many other bug fixes. All Exchange servers will be rebooted one by one as we apply the update.
Users should notice no impact, especially if they have their Outlook clients set to use cached mode.
As announced in a previous change management request:
This morning at 9:30am we will be raising the UIS Active Directory forest from the 2003 functional level to the 2008 R2 functional level.
For the curious, information on the different functional levels can be obtained here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/understanding-active-directory-functional-levels(v=ws.10).aspx
We will be applying Service Pack 3 to the Exchange Servers today. We will start with the Client Access Servers this morning, and once those are complete we will continue on to the others.
We don’t expect any mail services to be interrupted, and the process should be transparent to the users.
Update 1:45pm: All updates and reboots are complete
The updates on the mailbox servers will proceed throughout the morning, they will be updated and rebooted one at a time until all are completed.
UPDATE: This has been postponed until Wednesday
We will be doing rolling reboots on the Exchange mailbox servers throughout the day in order to perform updates to them.
