Cable TV channel 4.1 B4U

Channel 4.1 B4U is down.

I have contacted Campus Televideo and worked with their tech support to no avail.   They will be sending a technician.

In the mean time I have tuned a different movie channel in on 4.1 it is SETMAX.

Network connectivity issue (BRK 254 Switch)

The issues may not be limited to the BRK 254 switch.

We have discovered multicast flooding on the BRK 254 (VLAN 70) switch, due we believe, to faulty NIC drivers on specific models of Dell PCs.  The issue occurs when the computers go into sleep mode, when they are up and working they are not flooding.

Bill and his team are planning to upgrade the drives this morning.

We will keep you posted.

HSB Data Center UPS Fault

The MGE UPS in the electrical room is currently not protecting the load (Rectifier Internal Fault).  We have placed a call for repairs and will keep you posted.

The campus engineers have been notified not to test the Generator on HSB.

WUIS switch Issues

Some of the switches in the WUIS building are not preforming up to expectation.  There may be an issue with the outbound data buffers, if this is the problem then the solution is a restart.  Since this is a switch specific issue anyone on the switch will be experiencing the same issues.  We are going to restart one switch at noon today.  The impact will be limited to WUIS and only those connected to the that switch.

I will post the results of the restart.

Cisco Unified Communications Server

The server in UHB has errors and is not functioning correctly.  Kevin has opened a TAC case with Cisco and is restarting the server.

When the server is restarted phones will switch to the primary server in HSB and will fail back when the UHB server is restored.

The operator Station attendant console and Sangamon Auditorium ticket office attendant are the only known issue at this time.

We will keep the blog updated.

Core switch maintenance

The Supervisor blade in the Cisco 6509 chassis located in the basement of UHB is reporting errors and needs to be replaced.

We have the replacement and would like make the swap Friday morning June 13.

The only anticipated outage will be a reduction in the number of simultaneous phone calls which can be placed to or received from off campus numbers.

This is due to the temporary loss of 3 ISDN PRI trunks while the Sup blade is being replaced.  Once the Sup blade is back up and running the 3 trunks will resume handling calls.

We know that girl tech is taking place at this time, but the loss of phone lines should not impact them.

Secondary Fiber Paths

Monday morning March 17, 2014 at 7:30 am we will be activating the second (redundant) fiber path for two of the Brookens data switches.

The users should not notice that this was done.  If network connectivity is an issue please contact the help desk 206-6000.  The undo is very simple.

We have notified several individuals who were impacted back in December when we tried this the first time.
