Handling Requests for Used Computers

Objectives: To satisfy requests for used equipment – for use by GAs, part-time staff, adjunct faculty, etc. – with minimal administrative overhead and by following the established University procedures for equipment transfer.

  • Technology Support Center (TSC) & Learning Spaces Support Team (LSST) will keep a small number of machines that are deemed usable for the above population.
  • The best of the used machines will be kept. All others will be surplused or scraped following existing procedures.
  • ITS will only accept machines from other units that have been officially transferred to ITS via the FABweb fixed assets system.
  • Requests for used equipment will be forwarded to Pam and Todd.
  • Once availability is confirmed, TSC or LSST (depending on where the machines are going) will prepare the equipment based on the requester’s needs, and work with Kelly to initiate the FABweb transfer.
  • Once the property manager of the receiving department has accepted the FABweb transfer, TSC or LSST will deliver and set up the machine following established procedures.

Thank you to Ian Fitzgerald

Hi, Farokh!  I just wanted to pass along my appreciation to Ian.  He used Echo 360 to demonstrate how the webcasting system works – and he did a phenomenal job.  I appreciate his willingness and skill in showing others how this process works and his timeliness in putting it together so that more of us can be familiar with it in case a situation like last Friday comes up again.

I felt really bad about the situation last Friday – the mayor’s inauguration seemed like a great opportunity for ITS to showcase to both the mayor’s office and the Auditorium that we can step up (even with little notice and amidst confusion and miscommunicatio) and meet the needs of the community.  I was glad that Jeff was there to set it up if you had decided to go forward with it, but thanks to Ian, more of us can step up, if needed, in the future.  http://uisapreso1.uis.edu:8080/ess/echo/presentation/026b3e3b-574a-4391-a82c-765ba4140a95

Kudos to Ian!

Thank you letter for Elizabeth, Help Desk Student Employee

Good afternoon,

Just a quick note to express my gratitude for the work that Elizabeth did to help retrieve my thesis I had been working on while on campus.  I continued to get an “unsafe attachment” message and could not open it no matter what I did after having emailed it to myself.  I had put hours and hours into it Friday night and thought it was lost.  But, she worked with me for well over an hour, staying past the end of her shift to help me.  In the end, she was successful and I have my corrections!  Most of all, she was kind, patient, and never grew weary of the very time consuming process.  Just thought you should know what a wonderful employee she is, and to express my sincere gratitude for her priceless assistance!

Sincerely,

Michaele Birch
