Equallogic SAN Controller Replacement

UPDATE: Dec 6, 2011 @ 07:45

The controller replacement went smoothly with no disruption of services.

The Dell Equallogic SAN is experiencing abnormal behavior in one of its controllers. Dell is sending out a replacement part tonight and we have scheduled a replacement of the suspect component at 7:30 AM tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. This should be a non-disruptive maintenance procedure that should take just a few minutes to complete. We do not expect any service disruption.

Blackboard Down Again

Update: Sep-14-2011 7:00 am

Roger has successfully rebooted the BB servers and the system is functioning normally again.

Update: 4:00 pm

Tulio, Tom and Roger have investigated the problem with the Blackboard servers and are confident that this is the same issue we experienced several months ago. The immediate fix is to restart the BB file server, followed by the app servers. Due to the critical nature of BB, we will be performing that restart beginning at 5:00 am tomorrow rather than waiting till the regularly scheduled maintenance window on Thursday. System restart time is estimated to be about 30 minutes, but could be as long as 2 hours. I will be sending out an e-mail to the campus shortly.

Tulio has shutdown all but one of the apps servers and restarted the services on that app server to get BB logins working again. BB is up again but only running on one server. More later.

Blackboard is currently not functioning. More information to follow.

Subject: POSTPONED BDMS Xtender Upgrade for Sunday, April 3

Hello.

AITS has determined that we need to postpone the BDMS upgrade scheduled for Sunday April 3, 2011. We will let you know once we have a new date scheduled.

If you DID NOT REMOVE the Xtender 5.4 components when you installed the new components you should have not any issues accessing images on Monday, April 4. If you removed any ActiveX components, you will need to reinstall them. You can download the files at https://apps.uillinois.edu/banner/bxs.html .

Users who do not have local administrator privileges will need to contact their departmental network administrator for assistance.

We apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any problems, contact the AITS service desk:
312-996-4806 (from UIC); 217- 333-3102 (from UIS/Illinois) or servicedeskaits@uillinois.edu

Thank You,
Cheri Gorrell

EAS Scheduled Maintenance This Sunday

[From OBFS e-mail]

Of Interest to

Units using i-card web applications but not i-card’s card swipe and the public website.

Event

AITS’ maintenance of production servers will include sporadic outages of Enterprise Authentication Services (EAS) on Sunday, February 20. An EAS outage prevents users from logging in to i‑card web applications.

If you are logged in to an i-card web application before an EAS outage, you may use that application as long as you don’t log out of that session.

When

Sunday, February 20, from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Duration

The EAS outage period is projected at only four hours. The entire AITS maintenance period is 12 hours.

Impact to i-card Programs’ Services

i-card web queries will be unavailable.

Notes

These i-card services won’t be affected and should operate without interruption:

·         i-card card swipes

·         Direct access to i-card tables, views, and queries

·         Chicago meal plan sales

·         Chicago Dragon Dollar$ online deposits

·         Springfield meal plan sales

·         Springfield Campus Cash sales, vending, and other purchase transactions

Door access systems on all campuses will remain operational, as they do not rely on i-card Programs servers or applications.
