WordPress Server and UISAPPSRVPROD2

Friday morning starting at 8:30 Tom and I are physically moving the WordPress server (blogs.uis.edu is hosted on this server) and UISAPPSRVPROD2 to another rack in HSB to prepare for the virtual servers and storage. Downtime should be no more that 1 hour each.

There is also an upgrade to the WordPress software that will be applied after the server is moved, so expect some intermittent downtime with that upgrade.

Power Injector failure VPA

We had a 12 port power injector running in VPA to power the new wireless
AP units. It failed yesterday (Monday Feb 7, 2011). It may have been a
coincident that it happened about the same time the building experienced
electrical power issues or not. In any event we had to replace the
injector to get the wireless AP units working. All the work is done and
the wireless is working again.

Datacenter Virtualization Assessment Results

UPDATE: The meeting today starts at 1:00 PM, not 2:00 PM.

The VMware team at CDW has completed the VMware Consolidation Assessment using data gathered during this past December and January. They have finished compiling the data and have scheduled a video conference today at 1:00 pm in HSB 132 to review and discuss the results. Any ITS person interested is welcome to attend.

The results are also in PDF format and have been added to the NGDC project wiki. You can find them here: https://edocs.uis.edu/cspea2/Next%20Generation%20Datacenter%20Initiative.xapp/Virtualization%20Assessment.xapp/index.wiki?stk=E1C06559DBFE976&uniq=-4s7v5z

HSB 127 New Cooling Units

Monday Feb 7, 2011 the primary cooling and humidification unit switch
off so that the secondary unit could run, this is normal operations.
However the secondary unit has a faulty humidification unit and was shut
down. The primary system did not recognize that the secondary unit
failed. With NO cooling the room quickly reached temperatures above
acceptable levels. The temperature monitoring system sent out emails
and the Stationary Engineers responded. The reactivated the primary
unit and the temps and humidity began to return to normal. The
engineers turned the recirculating fans in the old system back on to
keep air moving as a backup to the primary unit if it stops again.
